Introductory description

This module covers consulting knowledge in the era of digital transformation, broadening the scope to include technology consulting and change management as follows:
(1) We will review key consulting concepts and methods.
(2) We will discuss technology consulting and change management in the contexts of enterprise IT, digital spaces, and sustainability transformations.
(3) We will utilize business cases to foster a deeper understanding of the subjects and practice group work and presentations

This module follows on from the Introduction to Consulting module and helps students to strengthen their own capabilities ready for a successful career in consulting.

Outline syllabus

The module will cover most of the following topics:
What is consulting?
The consulting industry
The consulting process and problem-solving approaches
Technology consulting: Enterprise IT
AI impacts on consulting
IT governance
Digital consulting and platform governance
Sustainability transformation

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of essential concepts in technology consulting and change management across various agendas beyond general consulting
  • Think critically to identify goals and develop approaches in given business problems

Indicative reading list

The following books are introduced, which can help understand consulting:
Witzel, M. 2016. "Management consultancy," Routledge.
Garrette, B., Phelps, C., and Sibony, O. 2018. "Cracked it! How to solve big problems and sell solutions like top strategy consultants," Palgrave Macmillan.
During the module, students will read assigned articles and business cases

Approach business problems in the context of digital transformation, such as identifying goals, proposing plans to meet these goals, and effectively communicating these plan
