The dissertation offers a structured opportunity for extended, independent learning on a topic of philosophical relevance.

Module aims

The overall aim is to write a 10,000 word dissertation on a topic agreed between students and supervisors.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Develop time-management skills in the establishment of a research and writing plan
  • Develop higher level research skills
  • Design and carry out a project involving research and/or a critical review in a chosen field
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the chosen philosophical research topic
  • Develop extended writing skills

Research element

Students will be required to complete their own research on a subject of their choice.
