Introductory description

This module introduces students to the key ideas, debates, and practices in corporate governance and stakeholder engagement. It examines how governance frameworks and stakeholder engagement strategies shape organisational accountability, transparency, and long-term value creation across different business contexts.

Module aims

The aim of this module is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how corporate governance and stakeholder engagement shape business practice. You will examine governance mechanisms such as the role of boards, executive compensation, and institutional shareholders, alongside strategies for engaging with diverse stakeholder groups.

A key focus will be on the corporate information environment, particularly financial reporting, and how it supports transparency, accountability, and effective governance. The module will also highlight how governance structures are influenced by wider business environments and evolving stakeholder expectations.

By linking theory with real-world cases and academic research, the module will equip you to critically evaluate governance practices and stakeholder engagement strategies in different organisational and international contexts.

This module provides an introduction to the main theories, debates, and practices in corporate governance and stakeholder engagement. It covers topics such as boards of directors, executive compensation, shareholder activism, financial reporting, and stakeholder dialogue, and examines how these mechanisms shape accountability, transparency, and long-term value creation. Students will explore governance challenges across different organisational and international contexts through academic research, case analysis, and contemporary real-world examples.
