PO253-60 Work Placement Part-Year
Introductory description
This module is for students taking an Intercalated Year through the Department of Politics and International Studies that is Part-Year Study and Part-Year Work Placement. Students are also registered on PO250 for the Part-Year Study Abroad. The module is worth 60 CATS, which count as half the intercalated Year 3 of a 4 Year degree, but is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis and will not count toward the calculation of your degree classification. You need to Pass the Work Placement by fulfilling the participation and assessment requirements. In addition to completing your work placement, we expect you to be in regular contact with the Department during your period of work and to upload to Tabula a number of documents at designated points. These include information about your placement and confirmation from your employer of the duties you will undertake and the start and end dates. We ask that you also upload short reflective diary blogs to tell us how you are getting on, as well as the end of work placement assessed reflective essay. These reflective pieces offer you opportunities to tell us what you enjoy about the placement and to alert us to any problems or difficulties.
Module aims
To provide students with the opportunity to
Complete an undergraduate work placement.
Develop experience of and confidence in essential workplace skills.
Develop in a commercial professional, industrial or other environment skills previously pursued in an academic setting.
Improve foreign language skills [in placements where the language is not English].
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
The syllabus will vary as each placement may be different. A job description should be provided by the placement provider. The syllabus will comprise undertaking the approved work placement and submitting to the department required reflective diary entries whilst on placement. The workload must be a minimum of 600 hours to maintain equivalence with that expected for a 60 credit module.

International
Although some students on this module will undertake work placements in the UK, the majority will likely undertake work placements abroad.
