WM9Q3-15 Strategic Management and Organisational change
Introductory description
SMOC will introduce students to the philosophy of Business Excellence. By doing so, they will embark on a journey of exploration and understanding of the fundamental concepts that underpin non-prescriptive approaches to achieving sustainable excellence in an organization. Excellence in a business context is a combination of internal excellence in how things are done (enablers) leading to outstanding business performance (results).
Excellence is recognised worldwide through awards such as the EFQM global award, the Baldrige Award and the Deming Award as well as multiple national awards that are based on these.
Module aims
To give students a thorough grounding in the EFQM 2025 model (a key theme of the course, and in preparation for subsequent modules), This module has particularly focus on Strategic and Cultural aims of the Model (The direction elements) and the methods to achieve these, it looks in greater depth at these . It aims to to introduce them to Quality thinking and Quality Management approaches throughout all functions in a business. The contribution of the quality Gurus is examined as part of this, in particular the students are introduced to the most influential Guru, W Edwards Deming, and challenged to examine the ongoing applicability of his teachings
