Module aims
The aim of this module is to enable students to increase their competitiveness on the job market by gaining experience beyond their degree, through an industrial internship. This will allow them to:
- Develop and gain experience in essential workplace skills
- Utilise their academic knowledge in an industrial setting to broaden their professional skills
- Experience and gain a deeper understanding of the social and cultural environment of the workplace
- Expand their personal and professional networks

This will vary for students depending on the approved placement. A job description should be provided by the placement provider outlining the duties of the role and the expectations of the student for the duration of the placement. The syllabus will comprise undertaking the approved work placement and reflections on this experience will be distilled into one reflective report submission and one annotated summative poster submission. The workload must be a minimum of 1,200 hours to maintain equivalence with that expected for a 120-credit module.

This will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. Students will be asked to submit a 1500-word reflective essay, outlining both the specialist skills and the transferable skills developed as part of their placement year experience, how this influenced their career plans and any further developments needed to achieve their long-term goals. |

Students are asked to produce a poster that should contain contextual information on their work placement, the cultural and professional environment and the skills developed in relation to the module outcomes and interpersonal skills gained. They will be expected to present the poster at a Placement Poster Celebration Event during October of their final year. |
