EQ250-120 Study Year Abroad
Introductory description
Undergraduate students on the BA Education course have the opportunity to spend a full academic year at one or two of Warwick’s partner universities. This module is worth 120 CATS and counts as the intercalated Year 3 of a four year degree course. It is assessed by submission of a reflective assignment that is marked on a pass/fail basis. As an intercalated year student, you are expected to demonstrate the ability to pass the modules you take during the year abroad, but the marks you receive for those modules will not be converted to Warwick marks and will not count towards the calculation of your degree classification.
Module aims
- To demonstrate the ability to study abroad for a year at a host university approved by the Education Studies department;
- To experience and gain a deeper understanding of the social and cultural diversity of the country where you undertake your year abroad;
- To travel abroad and achieve personal development in preparation for further study, employment, and global citizenship;
- To develop your spoken, written, and communications skills in the language of the country where you undertake your year abroad.
- To further your knowledge and understanding of Education and affiliated subject areas by taking modules that are not available to study at Warwick;
- To provide the opportunity to study modules outside of Education that might not normally be available to study at Warwick.
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
The syllabus will be arranged on an individual basis in consultation with the host institution and Warwick Education Studies department as necessary. Modules selected must not duplicate those already taken at Warwick but could be chosen to provide adequate preparation for modules to be taken on return to Warwick. Students are expected to take the same total workload as that of a typical full-time student at the host institution and be equivalent to 120 credits at Warwick.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate ability to pass the necessary courses/modules studied on the year abroad.
- Demonstrate ability to exercise significant judgement in a variety of situations that may be encountered on the year abroad and to act autonomously with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate effectiveness in interpersonal and intercultural competencies and communication
- Effectively communicate ideas that are informed and coherent
- Critically review and take responsibility for own learning and personal development by reflecting on the skills and qualities developed on the year abroad
