Introductory description
This course aims to provide introduction to basic Korean, including Korean alphabet, Hangul, grammar and spoken Korean used for daily communication.
It will introduce practical expressions with related vocabulary to people who have no or little knowledge of the language.
Module aims
This beginners course will aim to develop competence in a range of predictable simple everyday language tasks, providing a very basic knowledge of the structure and vocabulary of the language.
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
Greetings; Introduceing oneself: name, nationality and job; Describing daily routine; Ask/ Talk about time and date;
Ask/ Talk about going to places; Ask/ Talk about daily life (e.g. weather, food, activities); Ask/ Talk about what you did; Ask/ Talk about what you plan to do; Make requests; Order food/ Buy things
Sentence structures; Subject and object markers; Time and Location markers; Verb endings (formal and informal);
Verbs conjugation (present, past and future tense); Interrogatives
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- understand a range of familiar spoken phrases, simple questions and short dialogues
- understand simple written descriptions and dialogues and texts about familiar topics
- make basic introductions and describe daily activities
- write short, simple text about myself and my daily activities
