WM9M7-15 Foundations of Digital Healthcare
Introductory description
This is an optional bridging module to address the knowledge gap of applicants from a healthcare background without digital expertise.
To be able to identify problems and develop digital healthcare solutions, there must be comprehensive understanding of the national and international health and social care system structures including the organisational, economic, political and current challenges across the wider health and wellbeing field. Digital healthcare professionals must understand the current and future digital health technology, how information flows through the health systems and among various stakeholders and how they all interact.
Module aims
To develop knowledge and skills around the development of digital healthcare solutions and achieve deeper understanding of the benefits and risks of implementing these solutions.

- Basic principals of digital healthcare and what it encompasses both nationally and internationally.
- The use of technology in healthcare.
- The stakeholders involved in providing care to patients
- The role of data and how it helps to increase the quality of care provided to patients
- Data privacy and security and risk implications in healthcare
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Develop critical understanding of the digital health technology and its role in supporting national and international healthcare systems.
- Appraise the benefits and challenges of implementing digital technology in healthcare
- Critically appraise the role and movement of data and information in healthcare
- Examine data privacy and ethical issues raised by the adoption of digital technology in healthcare.
- Evaluate the influence of care pathways, social determinants and global health care delivery models on the delivery of healthcare services
