Introductory description

The Transport Techniques and Management module explores the integration of freight transportation in logistics & supply chain management through the different freight transport modes, operations, technologies and the environment. The module is delivered through lectures, discussions, case studies, simulation exercises and industry exposure. Freight transportation management, plays a critical role in the world as it enables the movement of materials and products between suppliers and customers. It facilitates local and international trade, while employing millions of people globally. While there are many complexities in freight transportation, it is vital that it is managed in a sustainable manner.

Module aims

The Transport Techniques and Management module aims to develop in learners the ability to evaluate different freight transport modes and decide on the most appropriate mode based on diverse criteria. Learners will gain the aptitude to design sustainable freight transport solutions using various techniques. Learners will also cultivate the ability to investigate and critique freight transport operations across multiple modes. The module expects learners to evaluate the impact of freight transport on the environment and learn how to manage freight transport in a sustainable manner.
