Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Ideas of the internet including information economy and risk society together with the growing conflicts between confidentiality, integrity and availability
  • Concepts of internet commerce including datafication, copyright and platform capitalism
  • Ideas of surveillance, secrecy and privacy
  • Threats and attacks: threats, how they materialise, typical attacks and how those attacks exploit vulnerabilities
  • Cybersecurity risk management: understanding the personal, organisational and legal/regulatory context of defending information systems
