LL263-24 German Beginners (Accelerated)
Introductory description
This module is offered to students with no prior knowledge of German.
This module is the equivalent of German 1 + German 2 combined.
Due to the 'accelerated' nature of the module, evidence of prior linguistic achievement (e.g.
a high GCSE grade or A2 CEFR level in another European language) is essential.
Students will learn the basics of the German language.
This will offer an opportunity for students to develop their communicative competence in
German. For those students intending to travel to German-speaking countries, either
for study or on work placements, this fast-paced module can promote confidence-building
for communicating with native speakers abroad and helps you achieve a higher level of
proficiency in one year than in non-accelerated modules.
Successful completion of German Beginners Accelerated qualifies students to progress to
German 3 or German Intermediate Accelerated.
Module aims
● to understand and communicate in familiar and routine situations, using frequently used expressions;
● to develop strategies for language learning;
● to achieve A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference
Outline syllabus

Communication skills
This module will cover items such as: greetings, introductions, asking for and giving personal information, asking for and giving directions, describing people and places, daily routine, talking about likes and dislikes, ordering food and drinks, booking a hotel, talking about cultures, places, events and impressions, talking about sport and leisure, business, festivals and customs, work.
Grammar
This module will provide an introduction to fundamental features of German and essential basic structures, making it possible to function an a range of everyday situations using the present and past tenses, cases, prepositions, adjective endings, conjunctions, subjunctive and relative clauses.

Feedback on assessment
Individual feedback for learning is given in writing for homework handed in by
students and practice exam papers. Feedback on interim test is given in class week 1
of term 2.
