LL255-30 French Intermediate Accelerated
Introductory description
Prerequisite: Prior knowledge of French:
- A2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference)
- or a high grade in GCSE or equivalent
- or equivalent in International Baccalaureate
- or Language Centre French 2 or Beginners Accelerated
- or equivalent
The module is designed to enable students who have demonstrated higher linguistic skills to fast-track two levels (levels 3 and 4) in one year instead of two.
The module will strengthen reading and writing skills and will also reinforce the communicative skills acquired during previous study of the French language. Students will gain further insights into the culture and civilisation of French-speaking countries. The module will offer a more advanced study of language structure and syntax, and will concentrate on using the French language for discussing and analysing aspects of French society.
The module will facilitate students’ self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses in order to improve their learning skills.
Successful completion of French Intermediate Accelerated qualifies students to progress to French 5 or French for Business 1.

Communicative skills: Listening, speaking as well as reading and writing activities will be supported by a variety of authentic written and spoken material focusing on aspects of life and culture in French-speaking countries in addition to topical issues.
We will cover items such as : Origins/family/social relations, Employment, Consumer society, the French language, Media and the news, the Environment, France and the French, Travel and Adventure, Health + Fitness, the Arts, Technology, Tomorrow's world.
Grammar - We will cover items such as: present, perfect, imperfect, future, conditional,
pluperfect and conditional perfect, the subjunctive, adverbs, comparatives and superlatives, object pronouns, demonstrative and emphatic pronouns, relative pronouns, making a hypothetical statement, conjunctions to develop oral and written skills.

- understand the main ideas and some detail of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics

This module develops intercultural awareness and helps to prepare students for international student mobility.

Feedback on assessment
Verbal feedback is provided to the class regarding regular formative tasks set for homework and activities completed in class; individual written feedback is also provided for written work which has been handed in by students. Feedback is also provided orally and in writing on practice test papers. Feedback on interim test is given in class week 1 of term 2.
