Introductory description

The Internship module is a 15 CATS alternative to an elective for students wishing to add a work placement into their course. Students can undertake their internship in the UK or overseas.

Module aims

The aim of the module is to document the learning from a student's period of work in a company of their choosing, either in the UK or overseas. It aims to develop students' ability to conduct a critical evaluation of their own personal experience during their work placement, including how to reflect on their own challenges, development and skill acquisition. Students are expected to identify and appraise sustainable practice (environmental and social) within their internship.

Outline syllabus

This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.

The syllabus is student-led, requiring reflection on personal experiences and reference to research in relevant areas such as learning styles, team dynamics and (if working overseas) intercultural competencies.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Contrast subject knowledge from core module areas (strategy, operations, marketing, analytics and financial) with an evaluation of practices observed during the internship
