Introductory description

This is a compulsory course for third year students in the joint and Law and Business Studies degree programme co-taught by the Warwick Law School and the Warwick Business School. It is not open to other students.

Module aims

The course aims to introduce students to the legal, social and economic factors affecting businesses competing in the global marketplace.

Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to develop research, analytical and presentation skills and demonstrate the ability to integrate different fields of knowledge in the analysis of legal and business issues. On completion of the course, students should be able to apply and to critique the legal rules relating to global business. You should also be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of both the legal and economic issues surrounding the establishment and financing of multinational business operations, including the impact of multinational business operations on employees, customers, communities and the environment.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national and international legal and economic issues surrounding multinational business operations.
  • Understand the business analytical approaches of global firms to the features and influences of the business environment.
  • Comment critically on the context of the international business environment
  • Critique the legal rules and regulations relating to international economic and commercial law
  • Investigate and analyse business desk research
  • Combine and compare disciplinary knowledge
  • Work in teams to research and prepare a presentation
