IB9PC-15 Special Topics in Operational Research
Introductory description
This module aims to cover in depth one or two specialist topics in Operational Research (OR), which are tailored to the research of a few doctoral students. The list of potential topics includes decision making under uncertainty, optimisation in analytics, simulation-based optimisation, combinatorial optimisation, optimal information collection, problem structuring and OR modelling.

- Provide in-depth knowledge in one or two specialist topics in OR
- Support doctoral students in applying these to their research
- Discuss current research trends in the specified research area in OR.
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
This module aims to support a small number of doctoral students whose research belongs to one or two specialist topics in OR. This can be achieved with the following activities:
- Lectures to cover in-depth materials at the doctoral level
- Tutorials in which students develop and implement models from established literature in those specialist topics
- Seminars in which students present and discuss most recent research in those specialist topics
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:

- An in-depth knowledge of the current trends in the specified research area in OR.
- Apply the knowledge in those specialist topics in OR to their research
