EP971-30 Pedagogy and design of teaching for conflict and crisis
Introductory description
The ‘Pedagogy and design of teaching for conflict and crisis’ module is a closed knowledge exchange module that aims to develop Ukraine’s leadership in education and its capacity for the renewal of the education system, both during the war and beyond. During an intense week of on campus activities, including workshops, reflection, and supervisory activities, participants will gain an understanding of pedagogic leadership and design frameworks, methods and practices, and a (further) insight in the impact of war on micro level aspects of education.
The module will be taught using design led and case based collaborative methods, whereby participants take on leadership roles in a specific part of a simulated educational organisations with a focus on an authentic educational transformation challenge (e.g. development of programme for reintegrating learners, including children of veterans, those in temporarily occupied territories, and those returning from forcible deportation). Supported by a range of presentations and formative feedback giving and receiving exercises, each leadership team will work through several stages of the design process covering design and systems thinking for co-creation of education, community building and engagement, inclusive education, belonging and mattering, trauma informed teaching. The content of most sessions will relate to the current status of Education in Ukraine, the impact of the Russian invasion and consequent ongoing destruction, and the future vision for Education in Ukraine (Viziya and HE strategy).
Module aims
The principal aim of this closed module is to provide support to Ukrainian education leaders through knowledge exchange, mentoring, and sharing of best British (and other) education approaches and practices, as well as exploring success stories of the Ukrainian education system resilience during wartime. As part of the wider programme this module will strengthen Ukraine’s leadership in education and the renewal of the education system ahead of and after the end of the war. It would also allow to develop meaningful connections and exchange best education practices with colleagues at Warwick and in the UK, as well as facilitate an ongoing international knowledge exchange between Ukrainian and British colleagues.

Theories of Design Thinking and Systems Thinking, Community Building and Engagement, Trauma Informed Teaching, Digital Pedagogy and Delivery, Leadership and Leadership development during crisis.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Critically reflect on theories and methodologies of pedagogic innovation and/or their application in practice
- Apply principles of change management to their educational change plans
- Present confident plans for the application of pedagogical innovation within the Ukrainian context
- Use their insights into educational design and pedagogic practice for designing inclusive and responsive teaching and learning in challenging situations
- Evidence their understanding of design and systems thinking, and community building and engagement
- Present vision, strategy and evidence based planning of educational change projects, programmes or support efforts at the level of educational delivery
- Address stakeholder interests, concerns and needs in the context of educational innovation and change
- Reflect effectively on inclusion and integrity in educational design and pedagogic practice and their positionality and personal leadership.
- Maintain an effective peer dialogue and develop communities of practice for sustained knowledge exchange and continuing professional development.
Interdisciplinary
Participants will learn across the fields of Education and Management/ Leadership. Participants themselves will also contribute to the interdisciplinary nature of the knowledge exchange.
International
Participants will all be from Ukraine and the nature of the knowledge exchange will explore participants to frameworks and best practices from more than one educational context.

Feedback on assessment
Feedback will be provided throughout module and knowledge exchange, and particularly during workshops as part of collaboration between participants supervisory meetings.
Assessments that have been handed in will also received written feedback/ feed forward.
