PS902-90 Research Project in Psychology
Introductory description
The aim of the project is to provide students with the opportunity to investigate and carry out novel research in the area of Psychology that is empirical.
Module aims
The empirical (that is an experiment, computer program, survey or observational study) research should be physically safe and ethically acceptable, conform to the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct), and be practicable. The choice of topic is to be agreed between the student and a member of staff acting as supervisor, and is subject to course regulations and availability of supervision.
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
Students will complete a piece of empirical research as negotiated with the supervisor. The supervisor will advise the student in their completion of a piece of research that is timely, novel and methodologically sound in the agreed area of research (which may be subject to course regulations).
Students will review the literature, design the study as a whole, collect data and analyse data as appropriate for the area of research. The total amount of work will be comparable to three Warwick undergraduate third year projects, or a long multi-experiment paper.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Critically discuss past research and research methods in the chosen research area.
- Design informative novel studies, and prepare and plan data collection, in the chosen research area.
- Collect and analyse data to the standards of chosen research area.
- Report research to the standards of the chosen research area
