PS914-30 Case Study Seminar
Introductory description
This module has been developed to enable students to develop their skills at integrating psychological theory with clinical practice.
Module aims
The purpose of this module will be to complement the content modules of the MSc course by providing a venue for analysis, reporting, and group discussion of clinical case studies. It will build upon the theoretical teaching and learning associated with the other taught modules by using real life clinical cases to demonstrate how psychological theory is utilised when working in a range of clinical settings.

The role of the Psychologist in Neuropsychological Assessment
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Adolescents
Forensic Case Presentation
Working with Psychosis
Working with Relational Trauma using Cognitive Analytic Therapy
Working with Adults with Learning Disabilities
Working with Adults with Health Anxiety
Interventions for Supporting Service Users who Self-Harm
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Complex Trauma
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to consider how a range of psychological factors can affect how an individual functions
- Critically consider how academic theory can be applied to clinical case histories
- Demonstrate a basic level of skills at formulating clinical presentations including consideration of a range of contextual factors
- Demonstrate the ability to theoretically use that formulation to identify the basic premise for psychological intervention
- Apply their knowledge of outcome research to critique the clinical management of clinical cases
- Detect and analyse the uniqueness of the perspective psychological clinicians can bring to case histories
