Introductory description

WM-7543 Information Systems for Business Processes. This module aims to enable students to become familiar with the Information Systems in organisations, their architecture, their use, their design, and their implementation.

Module aims

Businesses enable their place in the market through innovation and meeting customer needs. As new technologies evolve, new opportunities and risks are exposed. Therefore, it is required to analyse the competitive advantage and suitability of technology before deploying it into business.
This module covers the role, opportunities and issues related to information systems in business organizations. A Business technology solution related to sustainability will be discussed in detail. The fundamental knowledge related to the formulation of a sound business case for a technology solution will be discussed.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

  • Hypothesize about the various roles, functions and activities related to information systems within an organisation.
  • Integrate understanding of how business exploits technology solutions for competitive advantage in a business case.
  • Develop skills in strategic decision making to plan technology solution acquisitions, identifying resources and organisational capabilities including the comparison of different sourcing options.
  • Create a value plan and gain commitment to a moderately complex technology-oriented solution, demonstrating understanding of requirements, using requirements elicitation techniques and negotiating skills.
  • Design and formulate a preliminary business case for the implementation of new technology solution, including estimation of both costs and benefits.
