  • Experience and gain a deeper understanding of the social and cultural environment of the host city and country.
  • Improve foreign language skills [in exchanges where the language is not English].
  • Broaden understanding and knowledge of their subject specialism(s).
  • Travel abroad and achieve personal development in preparation for employment and global citizenship.
Outline syllabus

This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.

Students must have completed level 4 of the course for which this is an approved module with an average mark of at least 60%. In cases where an average mark of 60 has not been achieved, students who have achieved a 2:2 average and have strong tutor support may be considered. Students must also demonstrate within their application that they have sufficient language skills or capacity for language learning, as appropriate for the host institution to which they are applying. Tutor support and their work with their tutor during the 1st year will be considered to satisfy the Department of Psychology that they can be good ambassadors for the Department and for Warwick during the year abroad.

The syllabus will be arranged on an individual basis in consultation with the department and the host institution. It will normally comprise a combination of taught courses and any language training required. It is subject to the approval of the Year Abroad Coordinator. Where possible, modules selected should not duplicate those taken by students when they are at Warwick. Any amendments to the approved study plan must be approved by the Year Abroad Coordinator. Students are expected to take the same total workload as that of a typical full time student at the host institution and be equivalent to 120 credits at Warwick.
