Introductory description
This module will strengthen reading and writing skills and will also reinforce the communicative skills acquired during previous study of the Japanese language. Students will gain further insights into Japan and its culture.
Successful completion of Japanese 4 qualifies students to progress to Japanese Advanced.
Module aims
- To understand ideas in depth and carry out communication accordingly on a range of familiar social topics
- To work towards or achieve B1.2 of CEFR ( Common European Framework of Reference)
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
Communicative situations - expressing reasons and causes, expressing polite requests, expressing purposes, etc.
Grammatical content - causative form of verbs, expressing politeness, etc.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Apply knowledge of grammar appropriate to the level
- Understand the main ideas and details of reasonably complex texts on a range on a range of social topics
- Engage in oral communication, describing with details and expressing opinions with justification on a range of social topics, with fluency
- Write a clear, detailed text on a range of social topics explaining viewpoints objectively with appropriate register, where necessary, using correct characters

Feedback on assessment
Verbal feedback is provided to the class regarding regular formative tasks set for homework and activities completed in class; individual written feedback is also provided for written work which has been handed in by students. Feedback is also provided orally and in writing on practice test papers.
