LL1A9-15 Introduction to Spanish language
Introductory description
Students will be introduced to basic forms of language in spoken form that are used in practical everyday situations. They will also learn basic linguistic tools for reading and writing.
Students will gain an insight into Hispanic society
Successful completion qualifies students to enrol in Beginners Accelerated or level 1 (where permitted).
Module aims
- to introduce students to the basics of the language in written and oral form
- to begin to develop strategies for language learning
- to raise intercultural awareness
- to equip students in survival linguistic skills
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
This module will cover items such as: greetings, introductions, giving personal information, useful sentences in the classroom, numbers.
It will also provide an introduction to fundamental features of Spanish and essential basic structures, such as: gender and number agreement, formal and informal speech, adjectives, articles, common prepositions.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Develop basic language learning strategies
- Grasp basic grammatical concepts
- Present oneself orally to a partner abroad (video or audio)
- Gain insight into some aspects of everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries
- Reflect self-critically on and evaluate the process of learning a foreign language
