Module aims
This course provides a one-term option for students who wish to advance their understanding of the international investment process. This course may be taken in conjunction with "International Risk Management" to form a full-weight option. The course fits into the proposed new final year structure of the undergraduate programmes in that there will be 3 or 4 'streams' of study (3 or 4 full-weight courses) of which Accounting & Finance students will be expected to study at least 2 (the required balance being made up of options in other areas).

Financial instruments.
Primary and secondary markets.
Market mechanisms and microstructure.
Market efficiency.
Security analysis.
Use of derivatives for risk management.
Portfolio management, diversification and asset allocation.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a good basic understanding and appreciation of the current issues across a broad range of financial subjects which include financial markets and the investment management process.
- Apply the latest thinking and techniques in finance.
- Financial reasoning and paying attention to risk.

Subject specific skills
Construct optimal equity portfolios, manage interest rate risk using modern tools in bond markets, and hedge risk using derivatives. Additionally, learn to read and use academic research papers in the real world.
Transferable skills
Problem solving using mathematics, interpreting numbers from published research and extracting value from publicly available information.
