This module is a two hours weekly class for first year Law with French Law students designed to prepare students for
studying French law of obligations in their second year and studying at a French university during their third year.
This course will aim at: equipping students with advanced linguistic competence in French; providing a political, legal and cultural awareness of the country; developing students' ability to speak and write good French; and familiarising them with the French legal methodology.
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
Students will be introduced to the French political and legal system by looking at the French constitution and the history, main features and sources of French Law and its courts system. It will also give students the opportunity to read French newspapers articles and watch extracts of films on political, social and legal matters and to discuss those issues in class.
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
The oral assessment requires students to (a) identify a French Law topic; (b) research the topic and (c) deliver a short 10-minute presentation of their research.
